Led by Arts & Business the event this year included a curated group exhibition, The Witching Hour, a new publication and a highly successful series of events, which saw a footfall of over 1500 people over four days.

Toby De Silva: Immortals

The eyes of the art world were on Birmingham during this exciting four day event, hosted this year by artist, writer and TV broadcaster Matthew Collings.

The events included the main exhibition at Waterhall gallery, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and a series of events involving partner arts organisations - Grand Union, Ikon Gallery, MAC, New Art Gallery Walsall and Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

All activities celebrated contemporary visual art in Birmingham.  Art of Ideas was supported by and worked in partnership with Birmingham City University and Business Link West Midlands.

In addition to the events, a special edition magazine focused exclusively on collecting, collections and collectors was launched.

Matt Price, co-curator of the Witching Hour exhibition and editor of the publication, said: “The Art of Ideas publication is designed to encourage more people to start collecting contemporary art in the city and region. With its supernatural theme, The Witching Hour exhibition offers an opportunity for people who are interested in collecting art - whether individuals, businesses or arts institutions - to see and acquire works by leading and emerging artists from the West Midlands.”

The positive response in the press has also contributed to what was an amazing series of events.

"There are no pointy hats and broomsticks in this witching hour. But who needs ‘em? This exhibition flies on its own merits."
Lorne Jackson, The Birmingham Post

"It was a real pleasure to be involved in The Art of Ideas. I continue to hear great things about it since the events."
Speaker

"I thought it was brilliant! You should all be really pleased and proud, it just keeps getting bigger and better."
Independent curator

"The show was interesting with some really great works in & the catalogues are great too so well done!"
