The Prince of Wales Medal for Arts Philanthropy... nominations now open

Hook

Arts & Business says ...

Why is it important to honour our cultural philanthropists?

• Individual giving in the arts is the fastest growing and largest segment of income for arts organisations – making up 55% of total private investment.

• Donor care is central to any successful on-going relationship and recognition for support is one key way for arts organisations to grow and deepen support.

We aim to help new giving by highlighting the myriad of ways that individuals can have an impact.

The Prince of Wales Medal for Arts Philanthropy is now in its third year and has honoured individuals and couples with a stellar curriculum vitae in helping the arts to succeed. Often their role has been to leverage further financial support from other sources but in all cases, their financial support was coupled with leadership, guidance and public confidence in the arts organisation.

HRH The Prince of Wales and Arts & Business are inviting nominations from Chief Executives and Development Directors of arts organisations to honour the most inspiring philanthropists in the UK

The Prince of Wales Medal for Arts Philanthropy was first awarded to five honourees in 2008 and it continues to recognise:

• Inspirational supporters who capture the imagination of the wider society through their support to the arts

• Great philanthropists whose name is synonymous with support for the arts over a number of years

• The value of a variety of supporters from across the UK

• Innovative givers who are supporting in new ways to show the impact they can have

The honourees, UK or international, are recognised for their philanthropic support of cultural activities in the United Kingdom (or if UK artists or organisations are presented overseas). In addition, the award could be in recognition of a sustained contribution to our nation’s cultural life over a period of time. It is hoped that the “unknown hero”, as well as established philanthropists, are recognised, to reflect the importance of philanthropy of all sizes.
