The Big Arts Give 2010 on course to raise extra millions in individual philanthropy for the arts

Arts & Business says ...

“The huge uptake for The Big Arts Give shows a real appetite in the cultural sector for new ways to fundraise. All cultural organisations need to work to secure private money.  We believe this shows a real willingness and ability to adapt to the new funding environment and we will be with them every step of the way. It is not about “quick fix” fundraising, but should be used by arts organisations to help foster a culture of life-long giving.”

“With arts budgets about to suffer we are genuinely proud to work with Alec Reed and his website The Big Give. He trail-blazed online giving and we are delighted we have bought this new digital avenue for fundraising to the arts. It is a pilot year for this scheme, and it looks like the cultural sector is ready to devote more energy to securing new private money.”

"The arts are often perceived as being slightly out of the mainstream of charitable giving.  The Big Arts Give will push culture further up the ladder of charitable causes.”

“76% of cultural bodies are prioritising individual giving over all other sources of private investment for the foreseeable future.  This campaign is already encouraging arts bodies of all sizes to create new wealth and attract new donors. In a new era of pressure on public funding, philanthropy will become ever more vital to the success of arts and cultural organisations. Arts & Business aims to prepare and lead the arts sector by trail-blazing new fundraising initiatives like The Big Arts Give.”

Arts & Business’ Big Arts Give Exceeds Pledge Target as Cultural Bodies Develop New Relationship with Givers

At a time when the arts have been told by Government to adopt US-style funding, 114 arts charities have applied to take part in Arts & Business’ The Big Arts Give.  The Big Arts Give aims to dramatically re-animate individual cultural philanthropy in this period of economic difficulty.

Early indicators show that the cultural bodies taking part are aiming to raise £1,168,620 in private sector pledges. With further donations expected from the online challenge week in December and the use of the £500,000 catalyst fund set up by Arts & Business and Alec Reed, it is looking likely that the target of £3m (plus Gift Aid) going to arts charities will be reached.

The Big Arts Give is a significant part of Arts & Business’ Private Sector Policy for the Arts target - to reach £1 billion of private sector investment and philanthropy by 2016.

In the pilot year, Arts & Business anticipates raising at least £5 of new cultural wealth for every £1 Arts & Business invests through the Big Arts Give.

Arts & Business will promote this innovative approach for the benefit of organisations wishing to develop new relationships with givers.
