We offer tailored skills, training, advice and support for boards and board members, providing the practical help and elusive insight that can make all the difference.


Board Bank

Our Board Bank service connects business people with arts organisations, allowing them to bring their distinctive qualities to the cultural sector.

They come to us with business acumen, vision and energy – and a passion for the arts. We train them in good governance and help them understand their new roles and responsibilities. Then we try to match them with suitable organisations to achieve a successful blend of skills, objectives, ideas and contacts.

While we cannot guarantee to find you a board member, since 1988 we have placed more than 5,000 business people as non-executive board members and advisors with not-for-profit arts organisations.

Board Development Resources

NCVO - The National Council for Voluntary Organisations supports good governance in the voluntary and community sector with resources, toolkits, information and advice.

GAIN - The GAIN programme is designed to recruit and develop a new generation of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic individuals to serve as board members of London's arts, heritage and sports organisations.

Charities Commission - The regulator for Charities in England & Wales provides guidance and advice including a range of publications on charity law, recommended best practice and the duties of charity trustees.

Money Mission Models - MMM is a national action research programme launched by Arts & Business that supports artistic and cultural activity. It features a series of provocations, discussions and checklist tools for trustees and management to examine their governance practices.

GOLD - Archive site for the Governance strand of the Cultural Leadership Programme featuring debates, discussions and research.
